My first attendance at an international book fair was the London International Book Fair, as an author! It was an amazing experience and I loved every minute of it. Not only was Jasper and Milo’s New Home on display but I was able to meet with a wide range of people from around the world.
As an author, I joined other authors, some very successful and well known, and others just starting out, like myself. We chatted about book promotions, fairs and sales as well as styles of writing and hopes for the future. In the Author’s Hub, I attended talks and panel discussions on a range of topics including social medial and the development of electronic books in the Asia market!
Ruby Wax paid a visit to the event to reinforce positive mental wellbeing. I had met Ruby previously, within the context of my substantive career in health service development, and she brought her high energy to the fair.
The floor area of Olympia is immense and each zone contained many stands covering all aspects of books, writing and reading. Quite overwhelming! Over the three days, I walked miles and battled with aching feet but it was all worth it. I learned so much that my head buzzed and I left feeling very energised and excited about the future.
Jasper and Milo’s New Home has/is attending the following International Book Fairs this year. I was not able to attend these in person but may be able to travel next year. I have been contacted by several people who would have liked to meet with me so who knows. This feels like just the beginning……………..
