First Reading

In order to develop the concept of reading aloud to small children and helping them to identify words and pictures as they learn, I am developing a programme called First Reading. This is ‘work in progress’ but will start with groups of small children, and their responsible adult, gathering to listen to story readings and then encouraging them to develop this at home. First Reading is particularly aimed at groups where reading to children is not a regular family event. I am happy to support pre-schools in this approach. Watch this space!

Consultation on the future of Somerset Libraries

Through the Somerset County Council Consultation on the future of Somerset Libraries, I have been involved in the formation of the Friends of Castle Cary Library. Depending on the outcome of the above consultation, the ‘Friends’ are preparing proposals to continue a library service in Castle Cary (also covering neighbouring Parishes) if the current library should close. A lot of work has already taken place pending the decision which is expected early in November 2018. Jasper and Milo are keen supporters of a continuing library service in the town.

Jasper and Milo at the National Pet Show 2017!

The National Pet Show, with Supervet Doctor Noel Fitzpatrick, was held on 4th and 5th November 2017 at the National Exhibition Centre, Birmingham.

National Pet Show 2017

Dr. Noel Fitzpatrick is one of England’s top veterinarians. “Super Vet” showcases Fitzpatrick and his staff treating hard-to-cure ailments with innovative care and surgical techniques. The program gives the often-emotional stories of pets, owners and the passionate team that pushes boundaries of medicine to save animals from life-threatening conditions. Nicknamed the Bionic Vet, Fitzpatrick employs more than 100 people at his neurosurgery/orthopedic clinic in Surrey, England.

Lynn Emslie was at the National Pet Show as an exhibitor with Jasper and Milo’s New Home. Jasper and Milo had a stand just adjacent to the Supervet stage and it was great to meet so may interesting people of all ages and be part of the buzzing event. Over 24,000 visitors attended over the two day event and there was a fantastic atmosphere as people mixed with animals of every shape, size and colour.

Lynn was fortunate to follow the Supervet on Noel’s Ark to read Jasper and Milo’s New Home each day. It was well received.

Thank you to all who visited stand D396.
